ABOUT THE POSITION

Our department is looking for an Agricultural Aide to support our inspectors in agricultural program areas like insect trapping and state and federal pest quarantines. This job allows for a rewarding balance of both office and field work taking place in settings including farms, plant nurseries, shipping terminals and more. In this job, you might:

Inspect plants, insects, and soil per CDFA standards.
Deploy and monitor insect traps.
Inspect and process specimens of plants, insects and agricultural materials.
Assist with enforcing plant quarantines.
Prepare and maintain documentation and records such as maps, logs, calendars, reports and certificates.
Supports department’s outreach and educational programs.
Each county in California has a Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures and the experience gained in this position will be invaluable when pursuing Inspector opportunities in Marin County or counties throughout the state.

Work Location: Assignments in this position require working onsite at the Agriculture, Weights and Measures Department Office in Novato as well as inspection sites throughout the County. Candidates selected for this position must be willing to work outdoors, in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous pesticides (with proper safety equipment). Work may also require moving heavy shipment boxes and lifting to 25lbs.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to thirty semester units of course work or training in the natural or agricultural sciences, statistics and related subjects or a year of lead work or subject matter specialty work on special agricultural or related scientific projects.

Special Requirements: This assignment requires performing work at various locations throughout Marin County. Successful candidates must possess a valid class C Driver’s license and may be required to provide proof of licensure.
ABOUT THE PROCESS

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
