Personnel

  • Directly supervises or oversees MREC farm personnel in generating weekly work lists, assigning tasks, providing supporting (including ordering supplies) and evaluating their performance.
  • Providing labor for faculty projects as needed and appropriate
  • Acts as a liaison for center director with MREC faculty, staff and appropriate IFAS personnel.

Budget management

  • Stewards state allocations for general operations and maintenance of MREC facilities not covered by FPO.

Direct operational management

Provides overall management, coordination and occasional labor to all research dedicated structures (field, greenhouse, shade house) and support equipment to keep study plants healthy, including fertilization, irrigation, weed, disease, insect control and harvesting

  • Converses with company reps for donations of soil, pesticides and fertilizers to assist research.
  • Oversees equipment that supports research (that does not collect data), such distilled water unit and ordering replacement tanks
  • Oversees heavy machinery, including generators, monthly gas and fuel logs and fuel tank inspections, and yearly vehicle maintenance and registration.
  • Maintains inventory of consumables such as soil, gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene pesticides and compressed gases.
  • Plant production non-laboratory experiments including reports regarding operation of MREC
  • Oversees shared equipment such as golf carts and autoclave
  • Drives a state vehicle in the performance of job duties

Outside liaison/compliance

Coordinator with vendors and other UF/IFAS units not based at MREC fundamental to center operation.

  • Collaborates with FPO in identifying maintenance and repair under their jurisdiction
  • Prepares yearly well water consumptive use on monthly basis for St Johns Water Management

Oversees storage and disposal of all waste material classified as hazardous as per UF Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) procedures.

  • Maintains an updated pesticide applicator’s license
  • Oversees monitoring yearly inspection of center for proper pesticide procedures, assists employees in obtaining pesticide license
  • Oversees yearly EH&S trainings for Hearing, Respirator fit, tractor safety and lab safety inspection.
  • Communicates with other IFAS units regarding UF and Federal excess property on site.
  • Coordinates contact and supervision of outside contractors for greenhouse, non-data collection equipment, and special projects.
  • Coordinates with campus for training not conducted at MREC, such as forklift

 

Expected Salary:

$46,000-51,510

 

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience working on an agricultural operation, including supervision of others. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required years of experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

5-10 years experience working on an agricultural operation, and supervising workers
