The successful applicants for these positions will work on the maintenance and improvement of the facilities and property of Hardware WMA.
Job duties
Successful applicants will:
- Irrigate grass hay meadows, cut grass hay, rake grass hay, bale grass hay, haul grass hay and stack hay in the hay shed
- Operate and maintain farm equipment
- Aid in monitoring public use and camping on the WMA
- Remove old fencing and replace it with new fencing
- Finish construction of a round pen in the WMA barnyard
- Spray for noxious weeds
- Upgrade/replace WMA signage
- Maintain WMA grounds and facilities as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job requirements and skills
- Working toward a degree in natural resources (e.g., biology, zoology or wildlife management), agriculture, a related field or directly related work experience
- Experience with flood irrigation practices is preferred
- Risks that require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with livestock and/or hazardous chemicals, etc.
- Identify various wildlife, domestic animals and/or plant species, seeds or grain
- Maintain and/or repair tools and equipment
- Perform a variety of general maintenance activities
- Follow written and/or oral instructions, applicable laws, rules, regulations, and/or policies and procedures
Preference will be given to an applicant seeking a BS degree and/or with experience in flood irrigation.
Other
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time. Incumbents must be able to work in extreme and adverse weather conditions (heat, wind, snow, ice, rain, etc.), work on farm equipment and perform mechanical maintenance, work in cold water, on slippery surfaces and in cramped areas.
