A high school diploma or its equivalent.

Possession of a valid Driver License.

NOTES:

The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

JOB DUTIES:

Imported Fire Ant Nursery Inspections:

  • Maintains the inspections on schedule for all the IFA-certified nurseries, including current compliance agreements.
  • Maintains office files and records in a proper manner.
  • Updates the IFA nursery database.
  • Conducts IFA sample collections according to procedures.
  • Completes specimen reports, special inspection reports (SIR), daily Plant Industry Trust Revenue entries (PITR), and quarterly reports, timely and accurately.
  • Oversees treatments to ensure they are done and recorded when necessary.
  • Notifies nursery owners in advance of visit for an inspection.
  • Uses public relations and customer service skills when interacting with the public.

Participation in Special Programs:

Participates in other programs and travels to other field offices over night for extended periods, usually no more than two weeks at a time.

Maintain Vehicles and Other State Equipment:

  • Maintains vehicle and other equipment in proper working condition: reasonably clean, organized, and serviced according to maintenance schedule.
  • Maintains vehicle and other equipment reports.

Performs other duties as directed by management.

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to detect plant pests.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and mapped directions.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to weigh and measure accurately.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
