Brookford Farm is looking for a Small Livestock Assistant Manager who is excited about sustainability and working with the land! This position is full- time and year-round. The work includes all aspects of raising and caring for our pasture raised livestock

We have a 50 cow dairy herd, which gets intensive rotational grazed on our pasture. We also raise 1300 Laying hens, 4000 pasture raised meat chickens, 100 pigs and 8 sows and some minor stock like ducks, sheep, dogs.

The Small Livestock Assistant will help and oversee all aspects of running the chicken and pig program. Duties would consist of helping with seasonal and weekly planning, managing the pasture rotation on those groups of animals and overseeing the grain order. This job calls for a patient and observant individual who has a good animal sense. This person will help with rotational grazing of the cows.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintenance of waterers, electric fences, chargers, feeders, etc.
• Planning and execution of pasture rotation
• Daily work includes caring for all livestock with focus on small livestock
• Feeding, watering, observing and moving animals through pastures
• Collecting and washing eggs as needed
• Setting up, maintaining and frequent moving of our portable electric fencing
• Helps out with the dairy herd as needed, may include milking shifts
• Light construction and infrastructure projects as needed
• Regular cleaning and caretaking of brooders
• Weed whacking & mowing of fence- lines and other general pasture maintenance
• Helping and organizing meat chicken collection for slaughter
• Possible helping with driving animals to meat processing facility
• Animal chores in winter provide feed with tractor and bedding

• Ability to operate power tools and mechanical equipment safely

• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Experience driving livestock trailer a plus

• 8 hour shift
• Weekends as needed
