PAY AND BENEFITS

Annual Pay Range: $54,212.53 – $69,321.74

Hourly Pay Range: $26.063714 – $33.327760

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate’s experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Clackamas Water Environment Services (WES) is currently seeking a WES Technician to join their team to support day-to-day operations including operating heavy-duty diesel truck and trailer combinations to load, unload, haul and transfer liquids and dewatered biosolids for reuse at agricultural sites or for further treatment or disposal. The WES Technician will also load, unload, haul and transfer solid waste grit, screenings and stormwater decant material to landfills and operate solids handling equipment to prepare biosolids. The WES Technician has additional responsibilities for basic maintenance and custodial activities at WES treatment plants and facilities.

Successful candidates will possess their Class A CDL at the time of hire, with experience driving large vehicles pulling double or triple tankers. The most competitive candidates will have experience working in a water treatment facility environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

A minimum of one (1) year of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a tank endorsement and no restrictions in order to drive manual transmission at the time of hire
Experience using MS Office Suite including Word and Excel
Must pass a pre-employment drug test (DOT Regulations for CDL). Learn more about the County’s drug testing policy.
Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

Experience driving large vehicles pulling double or triple tankers
Experience working with biosolids, compost, and agriculture operations
Experience maintaining, repairing and installing wastewater and stormwater collection systems
Experience related to sanitary, storm water, wastewater utilities or construction
Experience operating front end loaders; Front End Loader certification desired
Experience operating forklifts; Forklift certification desired

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Primarily responsible to operate medium and heavy-duty gas and diesel-powered trucks and solids handling equipment to prep, load, transport, and unload biosolids from wastewater treatment plants to agricultural fields or designated hazardous waste disposal sites; fills tanker trailer by pumping biosolids from holding tank; drives on urban streets and rural roads and highways; evaluates field conditions and operates field application equipment.
Applies biosolids directly from tanker or with other application equipment; determines appropriate application pattern; operates mobile field spreading equipment.
Operates diesel truck and trailer combinations to load, unload, haul and transfer solid waste grit, screenings and stormwater decant material to landfills.
Performs basic plant maintenance activities; washes and cleans treatment plant equipment; assists in maintaining and operating collection system, sampling, and biosolids application equipment including pumps and tanks; cleans plant, collection system, and storm water, structures; operates high pressure hoses.
Performs general custodial duties at the facilities; maintains grounds by mowing grass, trimming shrubs and trees; plants, maintains, and weeds flower beds and landscape plantings.
Performs routine maintenance and minor repair of vehicles and equipment operated; inspects trucks, trailers and related equipment for safety hazards and mechanical problems; assists with the coordination of truck repair and servicing; maintains vehicle condition and maintenance records; washes and cleans trucks and equipment.
Maintains daily records of mileage, fuel consumption, locations and amounts of biosolids applied and related information in compliance with local, state and federal regulations; takes soil samples and records field conditions.
Maintains good public relations with landowners, neighbors, and the public; explains the biosolids application process and may respond to complaints or escalate as needed; ensures compliance with environmental regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties require frequent driving, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, shoveling, climbing, fine motor control, and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds, carry, and push/pull 90 pounds. Duties also involve frequent exposure to exhaust fumes and dust, loud noises, vibration, and adverse weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Wednesday through Sunday:

Scheduled work hours are 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

Clackamas Water Environment Services produces clean water and protects water quality for more than 190,000 people living and working in Clackamas County. We operate and maintain five resource recovery facilities, 23 pumping stations and hundreds of miles of pipes.

Each year, we clean more than seven billion gallons of water which we recover and turn into natural energy and fertilizer. We also help reduce pollution in local rivers, streams, and wetlands caused by surface and stormwater runoff, the number one source of water pollution in Oregon.
