WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The WY Red Canyon Ranch Stewardship Manager (RCRSM) develops, manages, and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for approximately 50,000 acres in the Southern Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. The RCRSM provides technical leadership and support to the Wyoming business unit and plans and directs preserve management programs and stewardship. The RCRSM addresses critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among conservation community, and supplies conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process. The RCRSM develops and implements conservation strategies and employs a full range of stewardship tools and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. The RCRSM coordinates community support, ensures the maintenance of preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and coordinates multiple projects, sets deadlines and manages completion. May supervise staff and volunteers. Expect to work and travel in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

Red Canyon Ranch, designated as a National Natural Landmark, spans approximately 50,000 acres along the Southern Wind River Mountains in Central Wyoming. Our approach to Ranch management involves stream restoration, biodiversity protection, research, and cattle grazing facilitated through lease arrangements. The diverse ecosystems within the Ranch, comprising grasslands, shrublands, dry forests, and boreal forests with interspersed creeks and springs, underscore our commitment to comprehensive stewardship.

Our primary objectives at Red Canyon Ranch are to rejuvenate local and regional ecosystems, engage in responsible land management in collaboration with stakeholders, and involve the community in pragmatic projects for a sustainable future across Wyoming and the western U.S. We foster a culture that encourages our staff to explore creative and innovative approaches to achieve these goals and effectively communicate the lessons learned to diverse audiences.

As the WY Red Canyon Ranch Stewardship Manager (RCRSM), you will spearhead land management projects and strategies, implementing innovative grazing technologies, conducting ecosystem monitoring, and controlling invasive species to foster and maintain biological diversity. Working collaboratively with our team, you will extend your influence beyond Ranch boundaries by testing new ideas, capturing valuable lessons, and sharing insights with fellow land managers, landowners, and natural resources professionals. Additionally, you may oversee other staff, contractors, and volunteers and interact with a variety of visitors.

Your responsibilities include developing and negotiating cattle leases for the Ranch, as well as overseeing the maintenance and repair of all infrastructure related to land stewardship, such as fences, livestock water facilities, equipment, vehicles, and buildings.

In collaboration with other TNC ranch and preserve stewardship staff in Wyoming, you will share resources and provide assistance when needed. Your role extends to assisting other staff in developing and managing budgets, contracts, and grants associated with land stewardship projects at Red Canyon Ranch.

Furthermore, you will collaborate with other TNC staff, supporting research projects, encouraging philanthropy, and effectively communicating with various audiences regarding land management and The Nature Conservancy’s goals and strategies.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing staff or volunteers.
Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
Experience in training.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.
Knowledge of ecological land management principles.
Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $48,600 – $53,750 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
